About the role

Christian Aid is looking for an advisor to provide technical leadership and enhance capacity of programmes/ partners and other relevant stakeholders in the organisation to develop inclusive markets with demonstrable results for vulnerable and affected communities. Through collaboration with programme, public policy and private sector engagement staff you will ensure effective inclusive market development programmes and related policy-advocacy priorities are developed.

Through ongoing learning from our own country programme experience and that of other NGO’s you will ensure that programme policy on inclusive markets is implemented in line with Christian Aid strategies and that new policies are developed. You will be responsible for building the capacity of inclusive markets programme staff to integrate power/ gender analysis, and to engage effectively with monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) processes and gender/ inclusion. You will be responsible for ensuring that learning and good practice on inclusive markets programming (at national, regional and global levels as well across thematic issues) is effectively captured and shared across the organisation, and reflected in changed practices at country programme level. You will be responsible for ensuring that Christian Aid’s work on inclusive markets development is presented and promoted through national and international networks, resulting in an enhanced organisational profile within the sector.

About you

You will have post graduate qualification or equivalent in a relevant discipline with an in-depth understanding of current thinking/ debates on inclusive markets development as well as extensive experience of managing markets work in different developing country contexts

You will be an excellent communicator in English (written and orally) with a strong understanding of current thinking in sector-specific M&E

You will have the ability to apply analysis of power / social exclusion to programme design and management and experience of applying market analysis tools and concepts (e.g. participatory market chain analysis) to programme design and management

You will have substantive experience and understanding of monitoring and evaluation (M&E) concepts and practice, and awareness of the DCED standard

You will have direct experience of engaging with policy/ advocacy issues at national, regional or global levels, as relevant to inclusive markets programming and experience of providing training, technical support and/or advice.

The location of this role is detailed as flexible but it will be based in one of our Christian Aid offices. The salary range shown is relevant for the role being based in London and, if appointed outside of the UK, will be adjusted to reflect the local salary scale. This role requires travel for up to 75 days a year.
