The Delegation of the European Union to Brazil is looking for an ASSISTANT TO THE SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION SECTOR (TEMPORARY)

The main objectives are to provide assistance to the Head of Section in:
•    Developing programmatic and technical bilateral activities in science, technology and innovation (STI) matters between the European Union and Brazil and also Latin America, in support to the implementation of EU policies and RTD activities, in particular under research Cooperation Agreements in force.
•         Following up and providing assistance to cooperation activities in Brazil, in particular with the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovations and Communications (MCTIC), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE), as well as to other Brazilian partners.

Other specific tasks include the following:
•         Follow-up of the on-going scientific cooperation, which covers other fields and partners beyond MCTIC and MRE, at central or federal and state levels, including inter alia States’ Research Support Foundations, CNPq, FINEP, CNEN, INPE, EMBRAPA and specific universities.
•         Provide assistance to the exchanges between European Commission services and Brazilian partners.
•         Screening on regular basis the new developments of the S&T and Information Society and Media policies in Brazil and provide information to the headquarters of the European Commission.
•         Interact in a synergetic way with relevant scientific matters with EU Member States representations in Brazil.
•         Provide logistical coordination of missions of European Commission officials and staff members to Brazil and other Latin American countries.
•         Assist and organize events, workshops, seminars and meetings in Brazil and Latin America.
•         Draft official notes, documents and reports, in particular reports on STI events and developments in Brazil.
•         Attend meetings and video conferences representing the sector.
•         Inform about the EU research programmes, Horizon 2020 and its complementary Euratom  (preparing and translating presentations, answering emails, etc.).

The working environment and conditions are as follows:
     Place of employment: Brasília.
    37.5 hours per week – Possibility of flexible working time arrangements.
    University degree, preferably on scientific matters or/and international relations; proficient IT skills (Microsoft Office, including Excel and Powerpoint; social media skills would be an asset)
    Languages: Excellent Portuguese and English. Asset: Spanish and French.
    Minimum working experience: 3 years in performing tasks required or similar.
    Expected performance: reliability and high standards of excellence; flexibility and readiness to work in close cooperation with the team; availability to assume back-up role when needed; openness to acquiring new skills and learning EU working procedures; discretion in handling sensitive information.
    Analytical skills: ability to conceptualize problems, identify and implement solutions, capacity to structure information, ease at calculation and numerical analysis.
    Character references: motivated, sense of initiative and responsibility, good presentation skills, strong team spirit, self-reliable, excellent organisational skills, respecting deadlines, ability to deal with stressful situations
    Minimum physical requirements: long term sitting and work in front of screen
