Main purpose of job:The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) is responsible for promoting UK trade and investment with the rest of the world, and we support UK businesses overseas and attract foreign investment to our shores. DBT officers at overseas posts liaise with the UK headquarters and other departments across the British Government to generate commercial, policy and institutional collaborations in other markets.The successful candidate will manage a pipeline of commercial opportunities in Brazil, as well as lead on the delivery of business deals, government relations and institutional engagement strategy.It will be required for the candidate to lead on commercial activities in order to support the growth of the UK market share in the life sciences sector in Brazil, playing a strategic role in visits, events, market research and market access initiatives.You will have the opportunity to participate at ministerial visits and meetings, trade shows, seminars, and internal and external events in order to develop your professional skills and experience to enhance your future career prospects.The successful applicant will be based in the British Consulate in São Paulo, Brazil, and will report to the Head of Healthcare & Life Sciences for Brazil and LATAC (also based in São Paulo).
Roles and responsibilities: This is an exciting opportunity to work with improving bilateral trade and relationship between the United Kingdom and Brazil in Life Sciences, especially through building and developing a pipeline of opportunities and deliver the team’s commercial strategies. The team currently covers the life sciences sector notably pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, and medical devices.You will be responsible for:Develop a commercial strategy and scope business opportunities in Brazil through research, meetings, cold calls and relationship building/maintaining with Brazilian stakeholders from the public and private sectors;Lead on the preparation of market research reports, internal briefings, visiting programmes;Develop the production of content for events, missions and commercial meetings about the UK offer in life sciences;Lead on trade missions, seminars, webinars and other events to promote UK-Brazil partnerships across the life sciences sector;Influence policy and lead government relations engagement at all levels, if necessary, contributing to the team’s market access strategy;Monitor market trends and develop sector’s strategic planning.You will deliver a number of high-profile activities engaging with key stakeholders from the government and private sector, so a high level of resilience and professionalism is essential. You will manage an existing pipeline of well-identified commercial opportunities and scoping new opportunities as they arise. An understanding of the sector is essential, but the ability to learn quickly will be vital in getting up to speed. It will be required strong communication skills and a high level of emotional intelligence that will allow the candidate to pitch approaches appropriately and deliver under different circumstances.This is an ideal position for someone with the ability to work collaboratively with an international team. The job will be challenging and will require the successful candidate to take responsibility for delivering both quickly and to a high quality standard. We are looking for someone with strong commercial and communication skills, flexible and with capacity to handle multiple projects simultaneously. The successful candidate might be required to undertake domestic as well as international travel.This position is based at British Consulate General São Paulo.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience 1 

Essential on arrival: University Degree in International Relations, Economics, Law, Public Policy, Medical/Healthcare or related areas3-year minimum experience working in commercial/business development workEvidence of excellent written and spoken communication, both in English and Portuguese.
